Water has a lot to do with the acid alkaline balance. Just as with different foods, different types of water can have a positive or negative effect on the body's pH level.

If you have been visiting this blog for a while then you have most likely know my story of how I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and then a whole host of other diseases in the months that followed. What I would like to mention is that Distilled Water had been my choice of water for almost 2 years prior to my getting sick. My diet was certainly not mostly alkaline (which would have helped) and I have since learned from the research found through AID (Ask Insider Doctors & Scientists) that distilled water leaches minerals from your body. I even put minerals in the distilled water as I knew that it did not have minerals in it. This did not over-ride the fact that it was drawing much needed elemental minerals from my body. Also, distilled water has a LOW pH.

This subject of water is near and dear to my heart as I have suffered long and hard with Chronic Pain -- from which there is no vacation from, day or night. I have learned how important water is and you will see articles pop up from time to time on this weblog pertaining to water -- it is just too important to pass by. Water can help heal anything from arthritis to vision problems.

How much water should we be drinking? Here is a formula from F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. the Author of 'Your Body's Many Cries for Water':

Take your body weight and divide it in half. That is how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day. If you weigh 160 lbs. then you should be drinking 80 ounces of water a day (that is about 2 1/2 quarts).

The best types of water to drink are:

  1. The Best: Pure Filtered Water
  2. Second Best: Bottled Water
  3. Use Sparingly: Distilled Water (one month max.)
  4. Avoid: Tap Water

An excellent site that is very easy to read and explains the different types of waters is DrLam.com . Please read Dr. Lam's site carefully...water is such an essential part of raising our alkalinity. He also warns about drinking distilled water long term.
